Abstract
1296571 Curable diglycidylamine compositions CIBA-GEIGY AG 15 April 1970 [15 April 1969] 17997/70 Heading C3B [Also in Division C2] Curable epoxy compositions comprise a #- methylglycidylamine of the general formula and a curing agent for epoxide resins; in the formula R 1 and R 2 are each a monovalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical free of epoxide groups and of nitrogen, or together form a divalent aliphatic radical, R 3 is H or CH 3 and n is 0 or 1. Curing can be carried out in two stages. The glycidylamines, being generally liquids, may also be used as reactive diluents for epoxy resins and many examples are given of suitable di- and poly-epoxides. In the latter instance, the preferred curing agents are polycarboxylic acid anhydrides. When the above glycidylamines are the sole epoxide, the anhydrides are not satisfactory and the preferred curing agents are polyamines. Many examples are provided of curing agents. Further reactive diluents may be used, e.g. styrene oxide and glycidyl ethers and esters.- The compositions may contain additives, e.g. coal tar, bitumen, textile fibres, glass fibres, asbestos fibres, boron fibres, carbon fibres, cellulose, polyethylene and polypropylene powder, quartz powder, mica, asbestos powder, slate powder, kaolin, aluminium oxide trihydrate, chalk, gypsum, antimony trioxide, bentones, silica aerogel, lithopone, barytes, titanium oxide, carbon black, graphite, iron oxide and aluminium and iron powders. Solvents, plasticizers and flow control agents are also specified. Uses.-Paints, lacquers, pressing compositions, sintering powders, moulding formulations, impregnating and casting resins, adhesives, tool resins, laminates, sealing and filling compositions, floor coverings, mineral aggregates.
