Abstract

1296410 Radio signalling; transponders MARCONI CO Ltd 2 July 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 42374/70 Heading H4L In a system for locating vehicles in a given area a plurality of radio responders consisting of one or more cavity resonators directly connected to aerials are erected at predetermined positions in the area, the resonant frequencies or frequency radiated from each responder forming an identification signal peculiar to that transponder, and each vehicle has means for transmitting a radio-frequency signal which is swept over the full range of response frequencies available to all the responders and means responsive to the signals received from an adjacent responder in response to the interrogation signal from the vehicle to retransmit them to a base station on a carrier frequency which does not affect the responders. The carrier frequency or other means such as a distinctive modulation or time of transmission may be used to identify the vehicle.
