1296231 Automatic exchange equipment STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 10 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 46046/69 Heading H4K In a telephone exchange having control units which are taken into use for a plurality of short periods during the establishment of a call and registers which are seized for the whole period of establishment of a call, the registers and control units are grouped and each group of registers is allocated to a group of control units so that each register in the group has access to each control unit within the allocated group but no access to any other control unit. A typical exchange using a control unit is shown in Specification 1,057,218 and the invention is more particularly applied to the sectionalized exchange shown in Specification 1,165,526. As shown a typical group comprises four control units of which one, MCV1, is shown and a plurality of register circuits mounted in identical racks 1-4. Associated with each register circuit is an electronic switch SW through which each register circuit can be connected selectively to any of the control units of the group. Each control unit is provided with a store which contains information about which registers of its associated group are engaged in establishing a call and ensures that such registers are repeatedly checked to see if they require further assistance. The signalling between the control units and registers may occur in a time divided manner.
