1295666 Medicines comprising polysaccharide derivatives RECHERCHE ET INDUSTRIE THERAPEUTIQUES 19 May 1970 [17 June 1969] 30722/69 Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] An antiinfectious pharmaceutical composition comprises an oxidised polysaccharide having at least 50 % of the monosaccharide rings open, substantially all the open rings oxidised to the carboxylic acid state, substantially all the C-O-C linkages in the original polysaccharide remaining intact, and having a molecular weight of at least 5000. The polysaccharide may be starch, amylase, cellulose, alginic acid, dextran, guaran or amylopectin. The polysaccharide may be in solution or suspension form, or in tablet or capsule form. In examples the polysaccharide may be dissolved in phosphate-buffered saline, optionally with the addition of influenza vaccine, or placed in gelatin capsules with magnesium stearate and, optionally, lactose.
