Abstract

129,459. British Refrigerating Co., and Baldwin, O. H. July 17, 1918. Indicators actuated by floats.-A device for indicating the level of a liquid in a vessel at a pressure above or below that of the atmosphere, and adapted for use with ammonia refrigerating - apparatus, in which a float, under the influence of the fluctuations of the liquid level, is slidably mounted on a twisted spindle and is operatively connected to a pointer to indicate the level upon a dial, means comprising a stuffing- box or packing-gland and a liquid seal are provided to prevent leakage of gas and the entrance of air when a vacuum exists ir the vessel. The spindle is provided with means for setting the float ir correct working position The float g is guided by a lug g<4> engaging a slot in the tube c and is provided with a central tube and disk g<2> having a triangular or other shaped hole through which passes a similarly shaped rod d' twisted an amount propcrtionate to its length. The rod d<1> rests on a ring e and is prolonged upwards at d so as to pass through a stuffing-box f in the body a of the gauge and is supported by a bridge piece h. The body is shaped like a cup and is filled with mineral oil which serves as a liquid seal. To the upper end of the spindle d is fitted a pointer e between a dial i and transparent cover j, and a knob k is provided to enable the spindle to be turned in order to correct the position of the float if at any time the motion has been restrained owing to friction. To the lid of the gauge is fitted a mirror o<2> to enable the readings to be taken from positions below the gauge.
