Abstract

1294157 Projection printing EASTMAN KODAK CO 15 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 49102/70 Headings G2A and G2C During the manufacture of a photographic web, the web 10 is moved continuously past a projection printer 22 so that latent images of sequential reference indicia are formed along the length of the web. As shown, the printer 22 is immediately upstream of knives 20 which divide the web 10 into two narrower web sections 16, 18, and the printer contains two counters 26, 28 arranged so as to give a single sequence of numbers on each web section 16, 18. The counters are indexed in response to web feed, and, once they are stationary, are imaged by a flash tube 42 through a mask unit 52 and lens 50 on to the moving web 10. These operations are controlled by a controller 58 which contains two U-shaped pieces 72, 90 each of which supports a lamp 78, 82 respectively and a photo-cell 80, 84 respectively. The U-shaped piece may be set at a pre-selected angular orientation with respect to the piece 72. The controller 58 also contains a disc 74 driven by the web 10 and having an aperture 76 therein, which aperture is selectively aligned with one of the photo-cell/lamp combinations the output from which either results in flashing the tube 42 or indexing the counters 26, 28.
