Abstract
1294048 Delta modulation system PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 April 1971 [29 April 1970] 11371/71 Heading G4H The delta modulation system of Specification 1,261,951 is modified to improve the reproduction quality during speech intervals and at very low signals. As described a system in which the amplitude of the voltage pulses applied to integrator 6 (Fig. 1) in a feedback path between code modulator 8, transmitting digital bits to the receiver and comparator 4, comparing the analogue input signal and integrator output, are controlled by a pulse pattern analyser 15 .recognizing for example four or more consecutive similar transmitted bits, includes additionally a second feedback path comprising difference circuit 40 receiving the transmitted signals and deriving signals of opposite polarity which are fed to an integrator 39, the integrator having a much lower cut off frequency than the cut off frequency of integrator 6. The integrator 39 also has a lower cut off frequency than integrator 16 connected between the output of pulse pattern analyser 15 and pulse modulators 14, 26 which control the size of the voltage pulses. The integrator 39 comprises a cascade arrangement of two sections, the first consisting of a series resistor 42 and shunt capacitor 43 and a second consisting of a series resistor 44 and a shunt impedance 46, 45.
