Abstract
1293024 Measuring deviation from circularity CARL ZEISS JENA VEB 16 March 1970 12553/70 Heading G1N The deviations from circularity of the surface of a stepped cylindrical member 2 Fig.1, are measured by a feeler gauge 5 while the member is rotated about its longitudinal axis, and the measurements compensated in a computer 12 for axial movement, sensed by feeler gauge 7, and eccentricity with respect to the axis of rotation, sensed by feeler gauges 6. To facilitate the compensating measurements a spherical ball 3 is attached to each end of the member 2 on its axis and feeler gauges 6, 7 sense movement of the balls in the appropriate direction. The computer 12 is also fed with the basic dimensional constants of the member 2 and the output to indicator 13 represents deviation from circularity at the measured position. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the test member 2 is mounted for rotation with a table 17. Axial and radial movements due to eccentricity of mounting are sensed by the feeler gauges 6, 7 using reference ball and plate 3 attached to the table 17 and these signals selectively energize motors 19 to move the table and eliminate eccentricity, whereby the output from feeler gauge 5 represents only deviation from circularity at the measured position.
