Abstract

1291718 Turbomachine blades ROLLSROYCE Ltd 8 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 62043/69 Heading FIT A turbomachine blade, e.g. for a gas turbine engine compressor, comprises portions 11 to 19 extending from the root to the tip of the blade, the portions normally contacting each other throughout their length but being relatively movable if the blade is struck by a foreign body. Each portion 11 to 19 is formed of laminations of, e.g. epoxy resin reinforced with carbon fibres, the portions being covered by layers of carbon or other fibres 24, 25 angled at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the blade. A further layer of a covering material 26 is provided. The portions 11 to 19 merge with a common root (21), Fig.1 (not shown) and at their tip are housed within a common cap member (23). The portions may be lightly bonded together. The root (21) may be formed to permit limited pivotal movement of the blade under Impact. The blade may be for a rotor or stator.
