Abstract

1291414 Pharmaceutical aerosols MERCK & CO Inc 8 March 1971 6279/71 Heading A5B [Also in Division C4] A single-phase aerosol composition for pharmaceutical use comprises up to 1% by wt. of pheoylephrine or a derivative thereof as active ingredient, one or more volatile non- toxic halohydrocarbons as propellant, and dipropylene glycol. The latter preferably constitutes 50-70% by wt. of the composition. In Examples phenylephrine HCl is used as vasoconstrictor and the propellant is (Ex's 1-3) dichlorofluoromethane + dichlorotetrafluoroethane, or (Ex. 4) dichlorofluoromethane + dichlorotetrafluoroethane. Other active therapeutic agents completely soluble in the composition may be added.
