1290190 Cathode-ray display tube ISE ELECTRONICS CORP 10 Oct 1969 [12 Oct 1968] 49867/69 Heading H1D A cathode-ray tube displaying characters (including letters, numerals, patterns or symbols) includes character forming means 7 between the cathode and the focusing and deflecting means 3, 4, the character means including a perforated insulating substrate, and a plurality of perforated electrode elements arranged each side of the substrate to form a matrix, whereby a positive field may be created at selected cross-over points by energization of appropriate electrodes to permit electron passage corresponding to the desired character. The remaining electrodes may be at negative potential. The electrodes may be in rows and columns and shaped as in Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown). Grid 6 uniformly disperses emitted electrons and insulating plate (9) (Fig. 7, not shown) of the matrix may be mica or ceramic. The electrodes may be individually secured to the substrate or electroconductive films may be provided and then etched. All electrodes may be at a potential to allow electron passage. The position of the character displayed may be varied by the deflection system and a number of characters may be simultaneously displayed. Different combinations of points may be cyclically displayed to produce an apparently permanent display of different characters.
