1289458 Control of AC motors A SERAGNOLI E SERAGNOLI and M T CHIANTORE [trading as G D SOC IN ACCOMANDITA SEMPLICE DI ENZO SERAGNOLI E ARIOSTA SERAGNOLI] 19 April 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 20295/71 Heading H2J [Also in Division B8] The drive motor M of cigarette packing machine is controlled by a relay circuit and means for sensing if a group of cigarettes is defective in respect of the number of cigarettes and the tobacco filling condition of each cigarette. In operation, manual press button P 1 is depressed thus energizing relay R 1 which locks in. Relay TL 1 is thus energized and motor M runs at its slow or starting speed. As TL 1 switches on, contact TL 1 -4 opens thus removing the power supply from timing relay T 1 which after a delay time set by capacitor C is de-energized and closes its contact T 1 -1. Lockin relay R 2 is thus energized and change over contact R 2 -1 de-energizes relay TL 1 and energizes relay TL 2 thus causing the motor to run at its higher or operating speed. Relay T 1 is again energized via contact TL 1 -4 and contact T 1 -1 opens again. Motor M may be stopped manually by depressing button P 2 thus de-energizing lock in relay R 1 and thus opening contact R 1 -1. Sensing means (5) and (6) (Fig. 3, not shown) comprise a number of pins (7) (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown) which at each machine cycle sense the condition of each cigarette group contained in chambers (3) of conveyor belt (4) (Fig. 1, not shown). If a defective group is found while the motor is M running at its operating speed sensing contact T 2 closes together with contact T 3 which is operated by cam C 1 every machine cycle. Relay R 3 is thus energized, contact R 3 -1 opens and relay TL 2 is de-energized. Simultaneously, R 3 -2 opens and unlocks R 2 . When contact T 3 opens contacts R 3 -1 and R 3 -2 close and TL-1 is energized so that the motor runs at its slow speed. Contact TL1-4 is thus opened and after the time delay set by capacitor C the motor reverts to its normal operating speed. While the motor M runs at its slow speed additional apparatus is operative to reject the defective group.
