Abstract

1288432 Welding by pressure DYNAMIT NOBELAG 1 May 1970 [3 May 1969] 21139/70 Heading B3R An assembly of flat or substantially flat metal plates to be explosively welded includes a plurality of spacer elements between the plates, each element being in the form of a wire wound in the form of an open helix. A number of helices 2 of thin metal wire are arranged between a base plate 1 and an upper plate 3 carrying a layer of explosive 4, the helices being preferably spot welded in position. In an example the helices are of diameter 3 mm. wound from soft iron wire of 0À3 mm. diameter distributed on circular arcs at intervals of 200 to 300 mm. over a 15 mm. steel boiler plate and the upper plate is of 2 mm. titanium. The helices become welded between the plates.
