Abstract
1287723 Measuring for dental plates J SCHREINEMAKERS 21 Jan 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 2868/70 Heading G1M A dental patient having a toothless lower jaw (mandible) 18 may be measured for a denture or have his present denture measurement checked by first selecting one of a series of plates 1 having a measured depth equal to the depth of the lingual rim 16 of the denture or bite plate and then standing the plate 1 on the lower gum ridge so that its top 3 is at a level corresponding to the lingual rim or wax rim of the bite plate determining the shape of his proposed denture or the level of the incisal edges 20 of the teeth of his present lower denture or bite plate. The extension of the tongue is now measured and compared with its extension after the bite plate or denture has been positioned in situ in place of the plate 1. If these extensions correspond then it is certain that the bite plate or the lower denture does not interfere with the tongue muscles, and if a sufficient holding suction is obtained then the bite plate or denture is correct. The plate 1 which may be adjusted on arms 5, 8 is held in position by the dentist holding grips 9.
