Abstract

1287577 Pneumatic tyres UNIROYAL Inc 8 Dec 1969 [23 Jan 1969] 59783/69 Heading B7C A cross-ply tyre has at least two carcass plies 30, 32 extending from bead to bead and a pair of breakers 52, 54 disposed between the adjacent carcass plies, the cords of each ply or breaker being oppositely directed to the cords of the adjacent ply and/or breaker, and the cords all being disposed at an acute angle to the midcircumferential plane. The type is manufactured from an uncured cylindrical blank in which the cord angle of the carcass plies, which may be 64¢ degrees, is greater than the cord angle of the breaker plies, which may be 56¢ degrees. When the blank is converted to toroidal shape the pantographing of the cords causes the cord angle of the carcass plies to fall below that of the breakers in the crown region while the carcass cord angle remains above that of the breakers in the sidewall region. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) two pairs of carcass plies are provided each having a pair of breakers located therebetween.
