Abstract
1287326 Ammonium thiosulphate USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 8 June 1970 [6 June 1969] 27670/70 Heading C1A Anhydrous ammonium thiosulphate is prepared by reacting, in a non-aqueous medium in which ammonium thiosulphate is insoluble, NH 3 , S, O 2 , and H 2 O such that the molar ratio H 2 O : S is 0À5-5À0 and NH 3 : S is at least unity, and separating the product. The liquid medium is preferably ammonia or a watermiscible dipolar aprotic solvent. Suitable solvents are dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl-formamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, acetonitrile, N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone, sulpholane, hexamethylphosphoramide, and tetramethyl urea. The reaction temperature is preferably maintained at below 100‹ C.
