Abstract

1286988 Contact printing apparatus TIME Inc 6 Oct 1969 [7 Oct 1968] 49050/69 Heading G2A Photographic exposure apparatus for exposing a light-sensitive surface of a plate through a photographic film comprises an upper housing 11, a light source 14 within the housing, a rotatable drum 16 for carrying the plate and film into the path of the light rays of the light source, locking means for locking the plate to the drum, means for registering the plate on the drum, means for registering the film on the drum in overlying relation with respect to the plate and suction means 41 communicating with the drum for holding the plate and film on the drum. The drum includes a recessed portion for accommodating the plate, the edges of the plate being held by pivotally mounting curved locking clamps 33, the film and the plate being registered with the drum by complementary holes and pins. An adjustable masking shield 17 defines an opening 18 to form a limited zone for exposing the plate. The drum has formed in its recess longitudinal and circumferential channels 39 connected by a flexible hose 45 to a vacuum pump 40. The upper housing 11 is mounted on a lower housing 10 which contains a motor 22 for driving the drum via a clutch 23 and a gear box 24, an exposure indicator 68 and translator 69, which regulates the speed of rotation of the drum as a function of the exposure light intensity. A hood 12 and exhaust conduit 13 are connected to a blower which pumps air from the housings, the air being admitted through louvre and filter assemblies 62, 72, so as to cool the plate and film and remove ozone, dirt and dust.
