Abstract

1286520 Photographic multi-flash units GTE SYLVANIA Inc 17 Dec 1969 [19 Dec 1968(2)] 61553/69 Heading G2A A photographic multi-flash unit, e.g. a flashcube (2) Fig.1 (not shown) containing percussion ignitable flash-lamps (6) mounted on a base 4 and each having a metal primer tube 16 is provided with folded torsional spring means mounted on the base 4 for striking the primers to ignite the lamps. As shown, one spring per lamp is provided, each spring 1 being of hairpin shape, one segment 3 of which has its end 9 shaped to define a catch 11, and the other segment 5 of which has its end shaped to define a striker 13 held by the catch 11 in its cocked position. A central post 15 of the base 4 provides a bearing post for the heel of the striker 13 during cocking. The cocked striker is displaced by a finger 18 of a camera to which the unit is attached moving up through a slot 20 in the base 4. In another embodiment, Fig.4 (not shown), the lower portion of the segment (5') near the striker (13') crosses over and lies behind the segment (3') to prevent inadvertent shocks from uncocking the striker (13') and to provide a pivot for the released striker. In both embodiments, reflectors (8) are provided, one per lamp (6), and the major portions of the springs (1) (1') are clustered in the space behind the reflectors (8). The stationary leg 9, (9') may be e.g. bent, and the striker need not be striaght. The segments 3, 5 could be doubled again to increase the total amount of energy stored. The springs may be made of metal or of glass fibre reinforced plastics.
