Abstract
1286191 Dioxazolidine derivatives BP CHEMICALS Ltd 14 Jan 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 5795/70 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula in which X and Y are the same or different and are substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl groups, are prepared by the oxidation of a compound of formula with molecular oxygen at a temperature in the range of<SP> _</SP> 70‹ to + 50‹ C. The reaction, preferably carried out in a solvent, may be carried out in the presence of actinic light. The products may be converted to caprolactam by refluxing with a solution of a base such as sodium methoxide in methanol. Examples are given of the preparation of diazolidine derivatives of the above formula in which (a) X is phenyl, Y is methyl, (b) X is p-chlorophenyl, Y is methyl, (c) X is 2,4-dimethylphenyl, Y is methyl, (d) X and Y are both phenyl, (e) X and Y are both ptolyl and (f) X and Y are both p-chlorophenyl.
