Abstract
1286136 Primary battery P R MALLORY & CO Inc 14 Nov 1969 [21 Nov 1968] 55964/69 Heading H1B An alkaline primary battery comprises a plurality of concentrically arranged interfitting individual cells each of which comprises an anode, e.g. of zinc, a depolarizer cathode with common activating electrolyte therebetween, the anodes being electrically interconnected as well as the cathodes. The embodiment shows two interconnected cylindrical cells'placed one inside the other thus forming a double cell structure or two cells in parallel with a common electrolyte for the cells in the same container. The inner and outer cell each comprise respectively an anode conductor 6, 11, anode 9, 12, absorbent member 4, 13, porous barrier 5, 14, depolarizer 10, 15. In addition the inner cell has an inner cell steel tubing 4 with a PTFE coating 8 and the outer cell is contained in a steel can 16. Centrally disposed within the two cells is a flexible polypropylene tube 21 which acts as a reservoir of compressible gas generated in the battery, as well as an electrolyte displacer. Tube 21 has a flexible cap 39 with an aperture 48. The inner and outer cell anode conductors 6, 11 make contact with inner cell top 31 and the outer cell top through a double cell top construction. The inner and outer cell depolarizers 10, 15 are interconnected through tubing 4 and can 16 by means of inner cell bottom 23. The assembly is sealed by a moulded rubber grommet 28, a sealing " ring, rubber rings 36, 37 and a plastic support 32.
