Abstract
1285834 Decorative panel S E LEE 19 April 1971 [26 Jan 1970] 3740/70 Heading B6G A decorative panel is produced by removing from a panel blank at least one portion of desired contour so as to leave a gap in the blank, covering a face and at least two sides of the or each portion with a thin sheet of decorative material, and replacing and securing in place the or each portion so covered in the location in the panel blank from which it was removed in such a manner that the material is held in the gap between the blank and the said sides, and the covered face is visible in use. Preferably a two-part backing panel is secured to the panel blank after the replacement of the or each said portion, the parts being of unequal size. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, a pelmet 10 made of wood or plastics material includes a front panel 11 and a backing panel 12. Portions 13 or 14 originally integral with panel 11 were sawn, stamped, or cut from panel 11, covered with covering 18 so that the latter surrounded the thin edges of the portions and then each portion re-inserted into the aperture of the front panel 11 from which it was removed. The portions may be secured in place by adhesives, lacing, clipping, snap-fitting, screwing. The covering may be a fabric having a floral pattern. A plurality of panels 11 may be secured together in side-by-side relationship and for this purpose one end of each panel 11 may be formed with an edge-wise extending tongue 20 adapted to fit into a groove 21 provided at the other edge of a similar panel 11. To secure two adjacent sections together a backing board 12 is made up of a larger part 25 and a smaller part 26 as shown in Figure 1. After the panel sections have been decorated the smaller part 26 of the backing board is removed and a part of the larger part 25 of another backing board is secured, the rest of the larger part 25 being then secured to another panel section 11. The smaller part 26 of the other backing board is then secured in place. Another article mentioned is a panel comprising a toy figure drawn on a backing-less panel so that several of its parts can be pressed out, the pressed-out parts being covered and pressed back in place so as to give the appearance of a clothed figure.
