1285183 Photographic type-composing H V PURDY and R C McINTOSH 9 April 1970 [9 April 1969] 18179/69 Heading B6W A character matrix plate comprises a handle 2, Fig. 1, is formed of steel or other hard rigid material, and is provided with a plurality of windows 3 each formed with a shoulder 5 from which project two pins 6. A character plaque 8 is positioned in each window, the pins passing through holes 81, 82, and secured therein by a resilient gasket 9 held in place by thumbscrews 10 engaging in holes 7. In another form, Fig. 2, the plate is formed with a recess 15 having windows 13, and the character plaques 183 are mounted on a single sheet 18 which is positioned in the recess by means of pins 16 and holes 181, and secured therein by a resilient gasket 19 secured by screws 20 in holes 17 and having apertures aligned with the windows and to pass over the pins 16.
