Abstract

1285115 Statistical apparatus AMERICAN SCIENCE & ENG Inc 14 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 39243/70 Heading G4M A specimen taken from a patient for biological analysis is held in a container 15 which carries permanently attached thereto a record 16 on which are recorded data identifying the corresponding patient and other data, e.g. identifying a test to be performed on the specimen. The container 15 may be placed in an apparatus which senses a patient identity card attached to the patient, the sensed identity data controlling heating-coils for selectively recording the data on a heat-sensitive record 16 to produce visible binary code marks. Further data may be recorded by entry from a keyboard. After recording the container 15 may be placed in a slot 23 to be sensed by a moving (or stationary) head 22 light being conducted towards and away from the head 22 by optical fibres 33-36, the sensed data being displayed on a CRT or printer for verification. The record 16 on the container 15 may also be subsequently sensed during manual or automatic transfer of the specimen to other containers 15 to control recording of the same data on blank records attached to these other containers.
