Abstract

1284731 Building panels JOHN LAING & SON Ltd 12 Aug 1969 [18 May 1968] 23760/68 Headings E1B and E1W A storey high pre-fabricated building panel for use in multi storey buildings defining at least part of the external walls of a building includes a rigid asbestos, foamed plastics or timber non-structural portion 30 pivotally mounted at 31 in an aperture and held in place by a shear pin 32 withstanding all normal forces but being overcome by an internal gas explosion. In an alternative embodiment two members are pivotally mounted from opposite edges of an aperture and are normally held in place by leaf springs, which if an explosion occurs assist in opening the aperture. The non- structural portions may be urged open by torsion springs but normally held closed by shear pins which fracture if an explosion occurs.
