Abstract
1284612 Surgical knives MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO 23 Sept 1969 [27 Sept 1968 28 July 1969] 46731/69 Heading A5R [Also in Division G2] An articulated guide tube assembly 10 for a laser beam emitted from a source 11 comprises a stationary tube member 12 and a movable tube member 13 connected through a gear box 14 having a reflector mirror 19, Fig. 2c, which is rotated by an appropriate gear mechanism through an angle equal to half that through which the member 13 is rotated so that the beam is emitted axially from the tube. The apparatus may be used particularly as a surgical knife. The gear box may be arranged so that tube 13 can rotate about a single axis or orthogonal axes and the tubes themselves may be in two parts, e.g. 12a, 12b, which rotate relative to each other. Tube 13 includes a lens which focuses the beam emerging from the tube's tapered end. The apparatus may include several gear boxed joined by intermediate tubes to increase the mobility of the beam.
