Abstract

1284539 Cutting tools MARWIN MINING TOOLS Ltd 27 Nov 1969 [7 Dec 1968] 58237/ 68 Heading E1F A replaceable tip for a mineral cutting tool comprises a hard metal nose or noses 10 having a cutting edge or edges secured to a -spigot or web 16 which is normal or substantially normal to a plane in which the edge or edges lie, the tip being adjustable relative to a shank 12 of the tool by rotation of the spigot or web whereby the spigot or web can be releasably attached to the shank in selected positions to present a selected part of the edge or any one of the edges to the mineral. The nose or noses are of tungsten carbide brazed to a steel backing 14 integral with the spigot or web 16. As shown in Fig. 2 the nose is dished and is circular but it may be hexagonal, octagonal, diamond-shaped or square, Figs. 4a .. 4e (not shown). The spigot may be frusto-conical or cylindrical and locked in place by a circlip, Fig. 3 (not shown). The web is retained in a slot in the shank 12 by a pin passing through aligned holes in the web and shank, Figs. 7a .. 8 (not shown). The tip may have the backing located in selected position relative to the shank by dowel pins, Figs. 9a .. 11b (not shown).
