Abstract
1284503 Feeding sheets KAMAS KVARNMASKINER AB 14 Sept 1970 [23 Sept 1969] 43863/70 Heading B8R In a method of, and apparatus for separating one or several sheets 1<SP>1</SP> from a pile 1 of paper, pasteboard or paper pulp sheets, e.g. in which the sheets are compacted in the pile and therefore tend to adhere to each other, the pile is supported by one or more arms, e.g. sets of arms 22, 23 on intermittently movable endless chains (18), (19), Fig. 6 (not shown) located on pulleys 20, 21, movable relatively to the sheet surface and by abutment means 17, a separator 12, wedge-shaped in profile, being penetrated down into the pile during which insertion, the abutment means 17 is swung away, and the arm or arms are displaced to permit a predetermined number of sheets to be separated from the pile. The separator 12 may cut between adhering sheets and as it descends, may bend the separated sheet or sheets 1<SP>1</SP> away from the remainder of the pile, the chains (18), (19) being activated to lower the supporting arms 23, and cause the other set of arms 22 to move into the gap formed as the separation continues. The pile may be supported on an advancing belt 2 and on a rotatable roller 24, separated sheets being ejected on to a conveyer belt 4, having abutments 5, which feeds them to rollers 6, 7 and a cutter 9. The separation of sheets may be controlled by the passage of sheets on the belt 4 and the rate of feed to the cutter 9 may be controlled by the load current of an electric, cutter motor. The arms 22, 23 may have sharpened edges to help in cutting sheets away from the pile.
