Abstract

1283805 Glass mixtures; coating with glass BRITISH COLUMBIA RESEARCH COUNCIL 4 Nov 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 52383/70 Heading C1M [Also in Division C3] Coating compositions for application to wood and metal surfaces, to impart thereto resistance to fire and wear, comprise 30-90% of an anionic or cationic polychloroprene emulsion containing 10-60% solids and 10-70% of either glass in fine particle form, e.g. dust and/or fibre, said glass particles being of a type which fuse when exposed to heat or fire, forming a protective insulating mat on the surface, or a mixture of such glass with calcium silicate fibres in an amount up to 50% of the mixture. Exemplified compositions contain polychloroprene, glass dust or a mixture of glass dust and fibres, and, in some examples, additional additives selected from colloidal silica, sodium polyacrylate, calcium silicate fibres, chlorinated paraffin, lead oxide (flux for the glass), zinc phosphate, cupric hydroxide (fungistatic agent) aluminous cement and asbestos fines. In examples, the surfaces treated are of creosoted wood.
