Abstract

1283613 Reacting polybutadiene with mercapto alkanols BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 19 Dec 1969 [21 Dec 1968] 61888/69 Headings C3G and C3P Polybutadiene is reacted with a mercaptan of formula where R is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl and n is an integer of 1 to 10 in the presence of a free radical or anionic catalyst. Butadiene can be reacted in the presence of an alkyl alkali metal and the mercapto alkanol can be added to the live polymer. The modified polybutadiene can be used as a backbone polymer for the production of impact-resistant styrene graft polymers.
