Abstract

1283356 Radiation source containers UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 26 Sept 1969 [3 Oct 1968] 46893/68 Heading H5R A source of scattered beta radiation includes a shielding container 12 formed by a lid 13 screwed to a base 12, with extended sources 21, 22 of the radiation disposed in the lid upon either side of a window formed by a slot 18 covered by aluminium 19, and opposite an aluminium target 24. As described, the sources 21, 22 are of promethium-147 and the container of steel, the scattered beta radiation issuing through the window being of suitably low energy to permit thickness gauging of thin materials.
