Abstract

1282759 Forging M LACHAUSSEE and A MAIGRET 4 Dec 1969 [18 Aug 1969] 59253/69 Heading B3H A disc is made by cutting a length of wire from wire stock, forging the length in a prismatic cavity in a first die 4 and then forging the prismatic blank in a disc-shaped cavity in a second die 5. The prismatic cavity is preferably triangular or star shaped with three lobes. The disc has a circular or polygonal cross-section. The disc is used as the starting blank for a stamping, drawing or extruding operation. The length of wire and the prismatic blank are supported around their periphery by the dies during forging to prevent buckling.
