Abstract

1282260 Map E KINSKI 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970 23 Nov 1970] 22141/71 Heading G5G Apparatus for locating specific site points on a map comprises a base member 1 (Figs. 1 and 2) bearing designations relating to the site points, and a cover member 2 movable in relation to the base member and holding the map, the cover member also bearing a marker 10 which can be set to the designations and being perforated at the individual site points, the base member also being perforated such that when the marker is set to a specific designation B, one of the perforations of the base member registers with the perforated site point B 1 associated with the designation B; rear illumination from lamps 8, 9 will then show up the site point. A magnifying glass and compass, slidable on a transparent band which pivots on the pin 3, may be provided. Several units based on the Fig. 1 embodiment may be assembled to form a larger map (Figs. 17 and 18) and are releasably secured to a carrier plate 60 by means of pressstud fasteners 68 and swivel bars 63. The carrier plate forms the top of a box 69, the other side 70 of which may form a further carrier plate. An additional unit carrying a smaller-scale map acts as a reference key to the units, making up the larger map. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 14), the base member bearing the designations 37 is a flexible film strip 31 which is wound on rollers operated by knobs 43, 44 and the cover member holding the map is a stationary plate overlying the film and fixed to the frame 34. A magnifying glass 41, slidable on a transparent band 40, may be fitted. In a further embodiment (Fig. 16), the base member bearing the designations 52 is a globe 47 on a stud 45 and the cover member holding the map is an outer concentric globe 49 provided with a marker 53 and resting on a pivot 50. A magnifying glass, slidable on a meridianshaped frame rotatable about one of the sphere axes, may be fitted.
