Abstract
1282092 Parallel operation of generating plant MIRRLEES BLACKSTONE Ltd 23 July 1969 [2 July 1968] 31580/68 Heading H2H An electrical generating system comprising a plurality of individual generating plants is provided with means whereby the plants can be on-loaded or off-loaded to suit the requirements of the system total load and the load capacities of the individual generating plants. The system includes a memory store containing a plurality of memory units, one for each of the generating plants, each memory unit providing information of the load capacity of the associated plant and whether or not it is on-loaded to the system. Means are also provided to give a signal indicative of the total load on the system which signal initiates the operation of a device which scans the memory store to on-load certain of the generating plants until the total load demand is satisfied. Should the load demand increase, the increase in the total load signal will initiate a further scanning of the memory store which will cause the next available generating plant with sufficient load capacity to be on-loaded to cope with the increased demand. Should the load demand decrease one or more plants will be off-loaded in such a manner that overloading of the plants remaining on-load is avoided. The system is effective to substitute one generating plant of a load capacity comparable to another should failure of the latter occur. Arrangements are also provided to deal with the problem of a generating plant failing to start when required for on-loading. The onloading or off-loading of the plants may be effected in a sequential mode or an optimizing mask in accordance with the load capacities of the various plants.
