Abstract

1281864 Treating complex iron-cyanide ions in waste liquids AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc 24 Aug 1970 [25 Aug 1969] 40610/70 Heading C1C Ferricyanide and/or ferrocyanide ion is/are removed from waste aqueous liquids by the acidification of the solution, if necessary to a pH of less than 5, the addition of ferrous ion in such an amount that the molar ratio of ferrous ion toferricyanide and/or ferrocyanide is at least 7, the adjustment of the pH of the solution to within the range of 6À5 to 9À0 and the subsequent separation of the resultant precipitate from the liquid. If the solution also contains hexavalent chromium, the process is modified by the reduction of the chromium to the trivalent state using sulphur dioxide, sulphurous acid or a bisulphite before the acidification (or otherwise) of the solution.
