1281623 Welding by fusion UZINA DE AUTOCAMIOANE "STEAGUL ROSU" BRASOV 13 Aug 1970 38960/70 Heading B3R In apparatus for welding the discs to rims of motor vehicle wheels, a single welding head 14, (Fig. 1), mounts several torches and means for simultaneously feeding electrode wires to the torches, the means including a motor, (Fig. 2), reduction gear-box 17 and a worm screw 19 which drives worm-wheels 20 associated with the respective torches. The electrode feed rollers 21 of each torch are driven from the worm-wheel 20 through gear-sets 22. The welding head is mounted on a carriage A which is supported on a track 13 and to which it can be clamped by clamp means 15. A similar welding head 14<SP>1</SP> and carriage is provided for use during servicing or repair of the welding head 14. Track 13 is held aloft by arms 2 which extend from a base enclosure 1 housing a motor and reduction unit 5 for rotating an axle 6. The latter rotates an upper axle 8 which, in use, supports wheel parts B to be welded. Axle 8, which is splined to axle 6, can be raised and lowered by pneumatic rams 10. Limit stops 12 are provided. A bronze sleeve 9 acts to connect the wheel B in the welding circuit. Rotation of axle 8 and feed of the electrodes is stopped automatically when the wheel spoke which each torch welds has been completely welded to the rim. This stop motion is cam-controlled. Wheels to be welded, are brought to or removed from the axle 8 by a suitable conveyer means. Welding can be performed in a protective gas atmosphere.
