Abstract

1281368 Television recording RCA CORPORATION 23 Oct 1969 [1 Nov 1968] 52012/69 Heading H4F [Also in Division G5] The video recording apparatus of Specification 1,193,024 is modified in that the two recording heads are arranged to successively scan laterally offset but partially overlapping tracks instead of the same track whereby the recording of the luminance information, which has been translated to a range of frequencies higher than the range of frequencies occupied by chrominance (or audio) information and is recorded in the surface of the coating of magnetizable material, lies partially over the recording of the lower frequency chrominance (or audio) information and partially in the magnetizable coating alongside the recording track of the chrominance (or audio) information. The chrominance (or audio) information is recorded in the thickness of the coating material. By arranging that the first head to which the chrominance (or audio) information is applied to record partly in two adjacent tracks scanned by the second head (or partly in one track scanned by the second head) and in the guard band between two adjacent tracks scanned by the second head, the signal-to-noise ratio of the recorded colour (audio) modulation carrier wave is improved.
