Abstract
1281197 m-Carbamoyloxyphenylureas BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 27 Nov 1969 [28 Nov 1968] 58003/69 Heading C2C The invention comprises m-carbamoyloxyphenylureas of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> represent H, alkoxy or a (C 1 -C 6 ) saturated or unsaturated aliphatic radical which may be substituted by halogen or hydroxy (C 1 -C 6 ) aliphatic hydrocarbonoxy radical, or chlorine-substituted (C 1 -C 6 ) aliphatic hydrocarbon-oxy group, R<SP>2</SP> represents a branched (C 2 -C 6 ) alkynyl radical or a branched aliphatic radical substituted by halogen, OH, alkoxy (C 1 -C 6 ) aliphatic hydrocarbonoxycarbonyl, unsubstituted or chlorine-substituted (C 1 -C 6 ) aliphatic hydrocarbon-oxy, COOH, carbalkoxy or alkylmercapto, and if R<SP>4</SP> represents aliphatic hydrocarbon-oxy, R<SP>2</SP> may also represent a (C 1 -C 6 ) saturated or unsaturated aliphatic radical and R<SP>3</SP> represents a (C 1 -C 6 ) saturated or unsaturated aliphatic radical which may be substituted by halogen or OH. They may be obtained by reacting maminophenol with the appropriate carbamyl halide to give the corresponding m-hydroxyphenylurea which is then reacted with the appropriate carbamyl halide or isocyanate; or by reacting the m-hydroxyphenylurea in the form of its chlorocarbonate with an appropriate amine. Examples are given for the production of the compounds. They are useful as herbicides, and may be employed as such together with conventional solid or liquid carriers. N - Methyl - N - methoxy- and N,N - dimethyl N<SP>1</SP> - 3 - hydroxy phenylurea are obtained by reacting m-aminophenol with the appropriate carbamyl chloride. N,N - Dimethyl - N<SP>1</SP> - 3 - (chloroformyloxy)- phenylurea is obtained by reacting N,N- dimethyl - N<SP>1</SP> - 3 - hydroxyphenyl - urea first with sodium methoxide and then with phosgene.
