Abstract

127,989. Kent, W. G., and Hunt, N. H. June 12, 1918. Sights.-Relates to the apparatus described in Specification 117,653, and comprises means whereby movement of the sights therein described is effected to compensate for the drift of an aeroplane. The upper and lower sights 1 and 2 are hinged to a sight bar and fold up and down when not in use. The bar is mounted within a tube 4 which can be secured by a nut 5 on a square on the stem 6 rotatable on a frame 8 secured to the fuselage of an aeroplane so that the stem 6 is horizontal and at right angles to the fore and aft axis. A spindle 11 with an extension 12 and eccentric slot fast thereto is rotatably supported parallel to the sight bar by brackets 10, 10 secured to the tube 4, and an arm 15 fast on the sight bar has a pin 14 working in the eccentric slot- Fast on the spindle 11 is a graticule frame 16 and a handle 17 by which the wires of the graticule can be set parallel to the land flow. The rotation of the graticule rotates the sight bar, through the pin and slot connexion, through half the angle in the same direction to compensate the drift. A scale 19 is provided on the extension 12 by means of which the amount of rotation of the spindle 11 can be read against a pointer 18 on the bracket 10. If a telescopic sight is used, the line of sight may be defined by a wire in a ring within the telescope suitably operated by gearing from the graticule.
