Abstract

1279153 Coloured liquid compositions of alkylated N-unsaturated polymers GAF CORP 17 June 1969 [10 July 1968] 30613/69 Heading C3P [Also in Division G2] An electrostatographic liquid reversal developer for negatively charged images comprises (1) an insulating carrier liquid, (2) a dispersed colouring agent, and (3) a polymer of a heterocyclic nitrogen-containing monomer alkylated with 2-2000 C alkyl radicals. The monomer is an N-vinyl monomer or is selected from (N- acryloyl)-pyrrolidone, -piperidone and -caprolactam; N - acryloyl - 5 - methyl - pyrrolidone, N - acryloyl - 6 - methyl piperidone and N- acryloyl-7-methyl caprolactam and their corresponding 5-, 6- and 7-ethyl derivatives; (N- acryloxy-methyl)-pyrrolidone, -piperidone and -caprolactam; (N - 2 - methacryloxyethyl)- pyrrolidone, -piperidone and -caprolactam; (N- methacryloxy - methyl) - 5 - methyl pyrrolidone, -6 - methyl - piperidone and - 7 - methylcaprolactam; N - methacrylamido - methyl -, N - 2 - methacrylamidoethyl - N - 3 - methacrylamidopropyl - and N - (N - phenyl - 3 - acrylamidopropyl)-pyrrolidones, -piperidones and -caprolactams. The polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer and may be mixed with a natural hydrocarbon polymer, a thermoplastic polymer of unsaturated hydrocarbons derived from petroleum cracking, or an oil-soluble C- alkyl succinyl derivative of polyethyleneimine. The examples describe developers comprising a hydrocarbon carrier liquid, carbon black and an olefine-alkylated polyvinylpyrrolidone.
