Abstract
1279105 Well-logging CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 9 Oct 1969 49717/69 Heading G1N The vertical resistivity of earth formation surrounding a vertical borehole is determined by establishing a substantially uniform, timevarying electromagnetic field over an elongated depth interval in the earth formation to induce a uniform, vertical electric field about the centre of said depth interval, and detecting the potential difference between a pair of electrodes 20, 22 spaced apart about the centre of said depth interval. The electromagnetic field is created by a dipole antenna (10) which is energized by an oscillator (36) carried in the sand 18, Fig. 2 (not shown). The induced electric field is made very much larger than the potential field, due to current flowing in the formation via the ends 48, 54 of the antenna, by adjusting the frequency of the oscillator and the length of the antenna. Alternatively, the potential field may be eliminated by insulating the ends of the antenna, Figs. 2B, 4, 4A, 5 (not shown).
