Abstract
1278957 Tuning monitors AUDITS OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd 4 Dec 1970 [5 Sept 1969] 44139/69 Heading H3Q A tuning monitor apparatus for a receiver comprises a tuner 5 receiving a signal derived from the local oscillator 2 and tunable over a range of frequencies stepwise by an applied stepped electrical signal, e.g. a staircase signal from scan generator 8 controlled by a lowfrequency oscillator 10, and a sensing arrangement for indicating which step corresponds to the received tuned frequency. In operation, the tuner may be driven by a stepping motor but preferably a varactor or varactors in the tuner 5 are controlled by an applied staircase waveform signal. Clock pulses from 10 are applied to bi-stable dividers and AND gates (15, Fig. 2) in the scan generator 8 for producing control signals for switching transistors (17, Fig. 4) serially connected to resistors (18) with taps which are sequentially connected to a common output for producing the staircase signal. When the tuner is correctly tuned, a D.C. output at 7 may be applied to a switching transistor at input of the oscillator 10 to switch it off. The D.C. output is also used to control a recording apparatus 11 indicating the step, i.e. the frequency of incoming signal.
