1278427 Detecting leakage in I.C. engine cylinders USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL 4 Aug 1969 [5 Aug 1968] 38862/69 Heading F1B In a method of detecting leakage from an I.C. engine combustion chamber the increase of power requirements of the engine when the engine is being cranked is indicative of decreased gas-tightness, the leakage being theoretically indicated by the diversibility of the difference between the compressive power and the expansive power during the working cycle of the gaseous cylinder charges from the difference between the corresponding powers of the ideal working cycle. In embodiments the mean speed of the engine and the current and voltage of the starter motor are measured locally or recorded telemetrically, Use of graphs enables a defective cylinder to be identified in a multi-cylinder engine.
