Abstract
1278207 Extraction of Sn from ores WOODALL-DUCKHAM Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 7825/70 Heading C7D Sn is extracted from tin ores, particularly lode ones, by oxidize roasting and then reducing in a controlled moisture content gas reducing atmosphere, leaching in dilute HC1 or depositing Sn from the liquor by displacement with a metal above Sn in the electro-chemical series. Minus 10 mesh ground one is oxidize roasted at 700-750C., reduced at the same temperature range in moist H 2 and then leached in dilute HCl. If the ore contains iron oxides, bistite, mica, chlorite and tourmaline intimately associated with the cassiterite magnetic separation may be applied to the raw ore, roasted ore or reduced product. The liquor from the leaching step may be contacted with metallic Fe to extract the Cu and the liquor is then contacted with Al to deposit the Sn. The residual chloride liquor is hydrolysed with a spray roaster to receive HCl for reuse in the leaching step.
