Abstract

1277972 Measuring proportions of liquid mixtures electrically ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 18 Aug 1969 41169/69 Heading G1N The amount of the lighter liquid in a mixture of two immiscible liquids is determined by measuring the total volume of liquid flowing through a conduit and the total mass and calculating the percentage of the lighter liquid from the equation:- A mixture of oil and water from a well is flowed through turbine meter 12 and orifice meter 13 positioned in conduit 11. The analogue function #p of the differential pressure transducer 17 connected to the orifice meter 13 is divided at 23 by the output f of digital to analogue converter 21 connected to the turbine meter 12 to obtain a quotient proportional to the total mass flow-rate, the quotient being converted to a digital output by 26. The total volume of liquids flowing through the conduit 11 is measured directly from the turbine meter at turbine meter read-out. Since the specific gravity of the oil and water are known the percentage of the lighter liquid i.e. oil is obtained from the above equation.
