1277737 Polymeric catalyst compositions BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 19 Sept 1969 [30 Sept 1968] 46216/68 Heading B1E [Also in Division C3] Catalysts for the hydrogenation, carboxylation and oligomerisation of olefins comprise a polymer containing phosphorous and transition metal atoms and characterised in that it contains groups of formula where X 1 and X 2 are hydrogen or halogen and contains a transition metal compound, the transition metal atoms being bonded to the phosphorus atoms, optionally together and with an aluminium alkyl, alkyl halide or halide or sodium borohydride. Examples of catalysts for the cyclodimerisation of butadiene are phosphorus containing polymer/Fe (III) or Co (III) acetylacetonate and diethyl aluminium ethoxide. Suitable polymers are prepared by reacting chloromethylated polystyrene or polyvinylchloride with potassium diphenyl phosphide.
