1277692 Rotary cutters; film fibrillation SEKISUI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 30 Jan 1970 [1 Feb 1969] 4727/70 Headings B4B and B5B An apparatus for fibrillating synthetic resin film 6 comprises a plurality of toothed cutting rings 1, each split at 14, mounted on a shaft and two clamping rings 2, each having helical ramps 23 on one side, the rings 2 being clamped on each end of the cutting rings, the ramps 23 displacing axially the parts of the cutting disc on each side of the split 14 to form helical cutting edges. The cutting teeth 13 alternatively may be saw tooth formation, Fig. 2 (not shown), and preferably have a long edge (131) facing the direction of rotation and making an angle of 60-80 degrees with a radius (e) passing through the leading end of the long edge. Split washers 5 may be provided between the cutting discs and the height of the teeth 13 above the edge of the washers is 0À2-1À6 mm. Keyways 15, 22 and (52) (Fig. 5, not shown) are provided in the cutting rings, clamping rings, and washers respectively, and in the shaft to receive a key. The film is fed across the revolving blade by rolls 71, guide rolls 81, 82 and take-up rolls 72. The axial spacing of the cuts may be adjusted by altering the position of the nuts 4 securing the assembly on the shaft or altering washer thicknesses and the length may be adjusted by raising or lowering the rollers 81, 82 or varying the speed of the disc assembly relative to that of the film. Depth of cut may be varied by varying washer diameter.
