Abstract

1277634 Herbicides containing alkylamino thioethers SCM CORP 22 May 1969 [27 June 1968] 26312/69 Heading ASE Herbicidal compositions comprise a #-(dilower alkylamino) lower alkylene thio ether of formula: AlK-S-R-NR'R" (wherein AlK is a C 4-16 saturated branched chain alkyl group, R is C 2-4 alkylene, R' and R" are each C 1-4 alkyl) and/or stable salts thereof together with a carrier. Specified compounds (17 in all) include #-diethylamino ethyl 3, 7-dimethyloctyl thioether, #-diethylaminoethyl 4, 6, 8-trimethylnonyl thioether and #-diethylamino n-octyl thioether, which together with their HCI salts are shown to exhibit selective pre-emergent and/or post-emergent herbicidal activity, permitting the growth of crops e.g. cotton, corn, soybeans, wheat and oats, while destroying or inhibiting the growth of weeds such as mustard, yellow foxtail, barn grass, rye grass, pig weed and buck wheat. Specified carriers include liquid hydrocarbons, terpene and other alcohols, glycols, finely divided inorganic and organic solids, and the active compounds are applied in amounts up to 10 lbs/acre.
