Abstract
1276358 Frequency testing STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 29 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38732/68 Heading G4H Apparatus for testing the frequency of, for example, oscillators includes a counter 7 preset to a number determined by the nominal value of the frequency being tested and an amplifier 1, squarer 2 and divide circuits 3, 4 via which the input signal is applied to enable gate G5 to pass clock pulses for one or more half-cycles of the square wave signal from circuit 4 to the counter 7, the difference between the measured count and the value which it should attain being indicated to give the deviation of the frequency. As described for testing frequencies of 1850 c/s., 1650 c/s., 1180 c/s. and 980 c/s. (for the first two of which circuit 4 divides by two), for each frequency an associated gate G1-G4 is enabled so that a matrix 8 presets counter 7 to the desired count. At the end of the measurement the count is read out to a decoder and shift register 13 controlling lamps 14 to display the magnitude and sense of the error.
