Abstract
1275880 Gyroscopic apparatus; optical communication BODENSEEWERK GERATETECHNIK G m b H 29 Dec 1970 [25 April 1970] 61580/70 Headings G1A and G1C A gimbal-mounted gyro-stabilized platform has means for transferring several signals via the gimbals through a single channel, using frequency or time division multiplex techniques. In Fig.1, the signals a-e from the innermost gimbal are successively sampled by a multiplexer 10 (an electronic switch device) the output of which is amplified at 16 and transferred via slip rings 20, 26, 32 to the intermediate gimbal, the outer gimbal, and the casing structure where a second multiplexer 12 separates the signals a'-e'. Signals from the other gimbals may be added by additional multiplexers. Instead of the slip rings, a contactless pick-off using light transmission may be used. In Fig.2, leads 42 carrying the multiplexed signals are guided in a bore of a gimbal shaft to a gallium arsenide diode 38 at the shaft end. Light therefrom excites a photo-diode, phototransistor, or photo-resistor 40 in the bearing structure. Signals may be of analogue or digital form. A parallel multiplexed path may be provided at the other end of the shaft. An audiofrequency signal may be used to monitor the function of the transfer channel.
