Abstract

1275387 Regulating; dual fuel engines STEYR-DAIMLER-PUCH A G 19 April 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 22130/71 Heading F1B Dual-fuel engine mixture ratio control device comprises a gas-flow valve which is coupled to the setting member of a fuel injection pump for simultaneous actuation therewith, the gas-flow valve consisting of a spring-loaded valve member which is closed in the idling position and which has a valve pin which protrudes into the flow passage bore, the pin having a cylindrical portion the same diameter as the bore and an adjoining conical tapered portion, the cylindrical portion being at least as long as the distance through which the valve member is displaced from its idling position to the position corresponding to the engine operating at one-third of its full load. Gas-flow control valve 4 comprises a valve member 9, connected by a spindle 3 to the accelerator-pedal operated linkage which controls the setting of the fuel injection pump, and includes a sealing portion which engages a seat 8, a cylindrical portion 12 and a terminal tapered portion. During idling and low power operation of the engine, no gaseous fuel is supplied in order to reduce to a minimum the unburnt hydro-carbons in the exhaust gases. At about 2/3 full-load operation the cylindrical portion begins to move clear of the valve seat and the amount of gaseous fuel supplies increases rapidly up to about ¥ full-load operation and then remains constant. A modification of the shape of the valve pin includes a slow taper 14 which results in gaseous fuel being supplied initally at about 3 of full-load operation, and a more sharply tapered portion 15 which provides a rapidly increasing amount of gaseous fuel as the throttle opening increases.
